



On 4 September 2025, GreenRE’s Executive Director, Ir. Ashwin Thurairajah, presented at the MIP Northern Branch Seminar 2025 – “Shaping Penang 2024 Vision Together”, held at the Iconic Marjorie Hotel. His session on “Developing Low-Carbon, Inclusive Townships” highlighted how sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity can be embedded into Malaysia’s urban development agenda.
The seminar was officially opened by YB Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, Penang State Executive Councillor (EXCO) for Local Government and Town & Country Planning, who delivered an inspiring keynote on the importance of cross-sector collaboration in shaping Penang’s future.
Ashwin also joined a distinguished panel discussion alongside:
i. Ptr Gs Mohd Bashir Sulaiman, Director of Planning and Development, MBPP (representing Datuk Bandar MBPP)
ii. Sr Dr Nur Syaimasyaza binti Mansor, Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM)
iii. Ir Chan York Lin, Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM)
iv. Mr Asbar Sanusi, Chin Hing Building Materials CHBM)
The panel explored themes such as urban renewal, climate adaptation, sustainable mobility, and community-focused planning. The discussions underscored the collective responsibility of planners, developers, and professional bodies in advancing Penang’s vision while building greener, more inclusive cities.
